House Ideas and Inspirations

When I go online surfing, I see a lot of ideas on interior designs that I would like to apply at home. I usually pin them on Pinterest, download them on my laptop, or save them in an online ideabook at Houzz. But I end up forgetting them all because of the many accounts that I use.

Here's a collection of those pictures of house designs (and my attempt to put them in one place).

Georyl Sings "Let It Go" (video)

Do you remember the time when kids can't get enough of Elsa and Anna of the Frozen movie?

During that time, Georyl was not immune to the enchantment of the royalties from the Kingdom of Arendelle. She probably memorized all the lines of the characters in this animated movie. She's watched it day in and day out.

Of course, just like any young fanatic of Queen Elsa and Princess Anna, she also has her own version of the song "Let It Go" that I'm going to share below.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's give it up for Georyl.

It's Father's Day 2020!

Happy Father's Day
Happy Father's Day!

It's the third Sunday of June! In the USA, United Kingdom, Philippines, and eighty eight other countries in the world, it's Father's Day.

I would like to say Happy Father's Day first to my Papa. Thank you for everything that you have done and continue to do for us, your children. Thank you for instilling in us the importance of family, honesty and discipline. We love you!

Happy Father's Day also to my dear grandfather, brothers, brothers-in-law, uncles, cousins and male friends who are fathers, and my single mom friends who take on fatherly responsibilities for their kids. Hope you all enjoy your day.

Last and certainly not the least, Happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband. The kids and I are quite blessed to have you in our lives. Just like what Geshery said, we love you to Pluto to the sun and to the moon and back.

Do you still remember when this video was taken? Yes, it's when the kids want you to put them to sleep by reading them a book (after you graduated from singing them the song, Bulag, Pipi and Bingi, as their lullaby).

I love how everybody was fast asleep when I got back. The picture shows how much the kids adore you.

Isn't this so sweet?

Again, Happy Father's Day Papa, Daddy, Tatay, Itay and to all fathers everywhere. Despite the quarantine and chaotic situation caused by this COVID pandemic, I hope we all can find a way to celebrate Father's Day today. May God bless us all.

Maja Blanca Without Coconut Milk - Success or Disaster?

IMPORTANT: Be sure to read my update at the end of this article.

My kids and I cooked the no gata (coconut milk) maja blanca today using the first recipe that came out of Google Search. Yes, that one with a YouTube video.

Verdict: The recipe, despite the gushing review at the end of the video by whoever cooked it, was a disaster!

Proof: I barely can finish eating a 1"x1" slice of this no gata maja blanca. And this is from someone who loves this Filipino white pudding!

Sadly, we cooked enough to fill up four containers.

maja blanca without coconut milk
The No Gata Maja Blanca. Good for photo opps but far from the real deal. 😞

Lesson learned: The reason why they refer to maja blanca as coconut pudding is because there's coconut. Regardless of whether I have most of the ingredients on hand, attempting to cook maja blanca without coconut milk is futile.

We already gave away one container before we even tasted it. Now, that we already know how it tastes like, how do we eat the rest? 😂😂😂

UPDATE: Turns out, my youngest daughter and my hubby love this no gata maja blanca. Since she has not tasted the maja blanca with coconut milk yet, I could say that she's just eating it at taste value. So, I guess, the recipe is ok if you are not really craving for the maja blanca taste. As for my hubby, I don't know what his reasons are but I'm just glad that the three containers of maja blanca are now down to one after a day.

Problem solved!

Children's Educational Websites

Last year, at this time of the year, most of the kids are back to school already. Because of the COVID pandemic, however, kids did not only have an early start for their "summer vacation break", the start of the school year 2020-2021 still seems uncertain as well.

Since current community quarantine guidelines prohibit kids from going out, most of them just spend their time on their gadgets, playing online games, chatting or getting busy on social media. If you're looking for websites where your kids can spend time learning something, check out the list that follows. Not only are these websites informative, most have fun educational games for kids as well.

Internet 4 Classrooms
Internet 4 Classrooms - a collaboration between Susan Brooks and Bill Byles, this site offers free educational resources from pre-K thru Grade 12. They have online practice quizzes and printable worksheets.

FunBrain - You can watch videos, play games and read books on FunBrain. It gives you the option to browse contents by grade from pre-K to Grade 8 or to select the category (games, reading, videos, playground and math zone) that you want. Books like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Little Red Riding Hood, and Judy Moody are featured in their reading section.

School Express
School Express - School Express features a variety of educational materials. Teachers will also find this website useful as not only does it feature various free worksheets and activity pages, one can even make their own worksheet in a user-friendly interface. eWorkbooks on science, social studies, geography, history, famous people, grammar, mathematics, creative writing, phonics, sight words, awards and early learning are just some of the materials shared on this site. - As the name suggests, this website is focused on mathematics and memory strategies to help one learn math facts fast. There are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division games that can be played individually or multi-player. It also features strategy games like Stick Man, Battleship War, Let's Park, and Flip Cube. They offer premium membership (which removes all ads) but you can still play and use this site free.

math is fun
Math is Fun - Math is Fun is a website that's been helping people learn math since 2000. This site aims to cover the full kindergarten to year 12 curriculum and offers topics for young kids like counting, place value, and composing numbers to advanced math subjects like algebra, statistics and calculus. It also features dictionary of math terms, worksheets and various activities. This is not just purely about math though; you can also play games like chess, checkers, reversi, 4 in a line, jigsaw puzzles, and other strategy games.

Even those studying for SATs will find resources like vocabulary, prep software, flashcards and SAT hangman to help them prepare for the next exam. If you are planning to buy educational software, you can also check out their educational software reviews before taking the plunge.

cool math 4 kids
Cool Math 4 Kids - This site from LLC started way back in 1997. It's designed to teach math in a fun way to kids upto 12 years old. They consider themselves as an amusement park of games, lessons, brain teasers, printable flash cards, and more. One can even make their own addition, subtraction, multiplication or division quiz (from numbers 1 to 10) and then set a time limit to answer a number of items online or print it as a worksheet.

math playground
Math Playground - When you need to give your brain a math workout, Math Playground can be one of the sites where you can do it. They got math games, logic games, math arcade, story math, math videos and skill games. You can also see these games on a per grade level (from 1 to 6). Math Playground was created by a teacher named Colleen King in 2002 to offer a fun way for her students to practice math facts. You can use the site free but for an ad-free version, you may also buy a subscription.

khan academy
Khan Academy - Upto this point, I only mentioned sites where you do not need to sign up in order to use them . However, Khan Academy is one website that my kids have been using for years now. You need to sign up (it's free) to create an account for you and your kids but you'll be able to access lessons from early math to calculus, differential equations and linear algebra. They also provide science and engineering lessons (like physics, biology, chemistry and electrical engineering), computer programming, arts & humanities, economics & finance, and test prep for SAT, LSAT, NCLEX-RN and more. Plus, you could learn about the careers, entrepreneurship, growth mindset, personal finance and college admissions. Creating an account helps you check the progress of your child as they learn the lessons and take the tests and quizzes.

While there are other sites where your kids can learn and have fun at the same time, the children's educational websites above will surely keep your kids busy for a long time. But now that we are at it, why not share other children's educational websites that you know in the comments section below.
